Injuries involving ladders frequently cause permanent disability.

Falls from portable ladders (step, straight, combination and extension) are one of the leading causes of occupational fatalities and injuries.

1.     Do not carry tools in one hand while climbing up a ladder.  Use a basket and a rope to raise and lower tools.

3.     Ladder should be set on firm, level base, strong enough to support the ladder and any load placed on it.

4.     Ladder should be set, as near as possible, at an angle of 750 (At ratio of 1 unit of length out to 4 units of length up).

5.     There should be no use of brick, block or timber packing, etc to gain extra height.

6.     Ladder must not be secured by their rungs: lashing should be around the stiles or proprietary ladder ties should be used.

7.     Lashing or clamping, at the mid-point of a ladder which is particularly over 6 meters in height.

8.     Ladder must be at least 1 meter (approximately 5 rungs) above the landing place.

Be sure that all locks on an extension, ladder is properly engaged.

10.   Read and follow all labels/markings on the ladder.

Ø  Wind Speed should be monitored before and during the lifting operations as per lifting plan.

Ø  The proposed lifting site should be checked for ground stability, and other operational restrictions.

Ø  Final decision will be on operator after satisfying him that the lifting his under control.

STRONG WIND (more than 50 kph) - Chances of the collapse of temporary structures or plants causing injury to people nearby and damage to property. Loss of body balance resulting in falls. Flying and falling objects may occur. While driving on site…

Wear a dust mask, monkey cap and safety spectacles while on site Avoid rubbing your eyes to prevent eye infections. Stop work at places with risks of falling objects or fall of persons (scaffold or steel structure exposed to wind). Remove or secure loose materials such planks, plywood, bolts and nut from the height. Avoid taking shelter from tarpaulin barricade or fire blanket as these can be easily carried by the wind.
